Sentinel Primary Care Research Alliance

About the Sentinel Primary Care Research Alliance.

The Sentinel Primary Care Research Alliance is a network of forward-thinking GP practices across Devon, collectively supporting a growing population of over 300,000. Our practices span a diverse range of communities, from inner-city areas with high levels of deprivation, to rural and coastal neighbourhoods that are traditionally under-represented in health research.

We collaborate with commercial and academic partners, including UHP Teaching Hospital, Research Delivery Network and Plymouth University to deliver high-quality, real-world clinical studies efficiently and ethically.

For many of our patient populations, access to clinical trials has been out of reach. We are expanding access to clinical trials for every patient.

Our mission is to be your premier partner for efficient and applicable clinical research in primary care. We deliver by:

  • Providing rapid, predictable patient recruitment from a large and diverse primary care population.
  • Ensuring efficient study delivery through streamlined protocols and close collaboration with our clinical sites, cutting timelines and costs.
  • Enhancing trial applicability by improving the representation of underserved communities in national and global research.
  • Driving high participant engagement and retention by integrating research directly into community care, offering patients early access to innovations.

By leveraging the strength of our GP network, we provide a single, coordinated point of access for research organisations while ensuring that studies are delivered safely, effectively, and equitably across our region.
